How does someone go from dreams of working in a collision shop to stuffing cannolis? With ease if you’re Chef Marco who will be in town for Festa Italiana in historic Ybor City. It’s a great story that goes very well with the kind of Italian foods that will be the highlight of the Festival. Chef Marco will highlight Galbani® cheese at the Festival, possibly reveal a secret or two and who know, he might bring you on stage to be his assistant.

Stocking up on snacks for the weekend? Check to make sure you don’t have these in the freezer. There’s a recall for their “Marketside Extra Large Supreme Pizza,” with lot code 20547 over listeria concerns. If you do have some throw them away or bring them back to the store for a refund.

It’s my personal believe that there are no miracles or quick fixes for losing weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It has to be a lifetime commitment, and that’s what keeps me going even when I’m feeling a little discouraged. Between you and I, that’s the way I’ve felt for the past few weeks. Dealing with the ups and down that come with a chronic disease like lupus have been a challenge but I can’t let that lead to sabotaging the hard work that’s already led to a 14 pound weight loss. The single best think I’ve ever done for [More]

This is a tough one; how to limit a nice vacation down to just five favorite things. Oh, and realizing you had such a good time you kept forgetting to take pictures! But it’s all good in Ann Kelly’s Kitchen. When you start with holding a four week old baby in your arms who wants that food NOW , I suddenly get why we all carry that attitude into adulthood when waiting in a restaurant. But welcome to the world Brianna Laurel Lehman, you’re going to love it here. We sure all love you.

I won’t say it’s the hardest part, but it’s just one of those things I deal with. When the lupus decides to flare up that presents a special set of problems with working out. The last couple of months have definitely presented a challenge for me which culminated with a set of injections into my hips to calm a lovely case of bursitis down. I won’t lie, it hurt! Oh, not the shots but not being able to get up from a sitting position without being in pain, and more than a few nights spent tossing and turning. So I [More]

Just steps away from Busch Gardens and the rest of the world off North 46th St I took a step back in time to the 16th century and a meeting with Queen Catherine Parr at the Bay Area Renaissance Festival. The Festival opens this weekend – February 18th – and will be open weekends through April 2nd. Those weekends have fun themes like Chocolate Fantasy in Piper’s Valley, the Barbarian Brewfest, and since it’s Tampa you have to include our favorite scalawags – Pirates! Their weekend is themed for Pirates and Pets.

It’s really a very good reason to enjoy funnel cakes any number of ways, anything deep-fried and on a stick and then get on any one of 115 rides on the largest midway in the US – that’s this year’s Florida State Fair! I spent an afternoon at the fair getting to know some of the good folks who spend a lot of time on the road to make sure we get those treats, and they all have a great story for why they do what they do. There’s Mama Jane who made the award-winning Cheesy Fried Enchilada Funnel Cake; [More]

Not that we need a reason to enjoy a fine craft brew, but when a mayoral proclamation is involved it’s a necessity. This Wednesday is Florida’s second annual official Craft Beer Day and Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn made it official with a proclamation issued at the beginning of the month. Mayor Buckhorn is a fan of the industry himself, and I had the chance to speak with him when Ulele created a lager just for his honor.

Valentine’s Day is next week, but this week is known as “Dump Your Significant Jerk” week. Why? Well it seems a lot of people purposely break up the week before Valentine’s Day to avoid buying presents. Really? Yes, really. But you’d never do that, right? Just in case you want to ‘fess up, take the new Dove Poll and tell us! It’s totally anonymous and you may be among friends.
But if you’d like to improve your odds at love this month, here’s your chance to enter and win a fun one from the Ann Kelly’s Kitchen Collection. “Making Love [More]

Despite the challenge of dealing with a chronic illness like lupus, the past few months have been some of the best in my life. No, it’s not the cooler weather although that helps. It’s the changes I’ve made thanks to Charlotte Mapes, RD, LDN, the Wellness Dietitian for BayCare Fitness Center- Carillon, and Jim Healy, a very inspirational personal trainer at BayCare that I’ll share more about later. It’s the fact that this one-time stress eater does not turn to food like I used to. That was such an easy excuse. Taking back control and turning toward a clean eating [More]
