Hi all! I’ve found some fun, some weird and some downright delicious things for Ann Kelly’s Kitchen…and away we go!
Who doesn’t love a latte? This girl does, but the calories aren’t my favorite. But I’ve found a great way to enjoy on without all the fat and calories but keeping all that spicy flavor. I found Spicy Chai Latte tea bags at Trader Joes, and use two of those in one cup of water and let that steep overnight. You can skip that step if you don’t have the time but I like the intense flavor. I add that to [More]

If charm alone could win the latest competition on Food Network – “Food Network Star: Comeback Kitchen” – Josh Lyons would be the clear winner in my book. In an all to brief phone interview of less than fifteen minutes I wanted to know a lot more about this South Florida chef who was a finalist on Season 8 of Food Network Star. Talk about doing it all – Josh is a musician who’s band is called “Fell on Deaf Ears”, a restaurant consultant, has a real thing for photography and a very cool dad. In the culinary world Josh is known as [More]

My cookbooks have always been very precious to me because each one tells a story, many of them preserving memories and menus from days gone by. That’s why I find Peter Gethers new book “My Mother’s Kitchen: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and the Meaning of life” very precious.
Gethers wrote the book to celebrate the life of his mother Judy Gethers whose father owned a legendary Jewish kosher dairy restaurant called Ratner’s on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. She had a stroke in her 80’s and was no longer able cook. That’s when Peter Gethers found a new calling in life. To preserve her [More]

Publix has recalled a very popular dip. The Deli Artichoke, and Spinach Dip is being recalled due to the possibility of small glass fragments. It’s the 16 ounce size and was sold in Florida. So take a minute to check here for what to look for on the container. This is the dip you find in the deli, and if you do have some take it back to the store. If you do have questions Publix asks that you call their Customer Care department at 1-800-242-1227 or visit their website at www.publix.com.

Let me start off this rosy edition of Ann Kelly’s Kitchen by saying just how much fun I had speaking with Jennifer Simonetti-Bryan, author of “Rose’ Wine – The Guide To Drinking Pink.” Honestly, I might have thought the exact opposite. This is a woman with serious credentials in the wine world. Jennifer is only the fourth woman in American to attain the international title as Master of Wine and is the winner of the 2008 Tasting Trophy from the Institute of Masters of Wine. She calls LA home and maintains a busy life judging major wine and spirits [More]

This Sunday it’s not only a free concert with the Florida Orchestra. It’s a chance to make a difference for Tampa Bay Harvest. I’ll be in Curtis Hixon Park for our free “Pops In The Park” concert and we’d like you to bring along a non-perishable food item (or two). If you bring those donations to the WDUV tent, we’ll give you the chance to register to win tickets for the final Florida Orchestra performances this month . We’re working together to end hunger in our community so please be as generous as possible. The concert itself is a lovely gift from [More]

There are new recalls and why I love Ina Garten in Ann Kelly’s Kitchen! Let’s get to those recalls first since they’re two very well-known products. This update is for a local product. Uncle John’s Pride, LLC., a Tampa company is recalling approximately 139,909 pounds of ready-to-eat smoked meat and poultry sausage products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials. You can view the full list and pictures of the packaging here.

I truly enjoyed talking to Daniel Shumski about his new book “Will It Skillet.” Why? Because the one item that is not in Ann Kelly’s Kitchen is a cast iron skillet. I used to consider them high maintenance – so very wrong. Oh, and I kind of like things I can toss in the dishwasher. But just few minutes with Daniel changed my mind. Once you find a pan you like and quite often that’s in a thrift store, cleaning it up, seasoning it and then just keeping it clean after each use and you have one handy, almost do-it-all [More]

Three stories caught my attention this week all dealing with what we eat and what we should not eat. So this edition of Ann Kelly’s Kitchen we’ll take a look at the good, bad and the sad. To start, this is definitely an acquired taste, but someone thinks it’s good – Peeps Pizza. A guy came up with this one and added pineapple as well. Two things – sugar rush for sure, and good luck getting all that melted goo out of your teeth. At least it’s colorful…..
The bad? Let’s start with WHAT we’re you thinking? Someone brought what turned [More]
