Ann Kellys Kitchen

It’s A Balancing Act

  • 10:27 am Saturday, December 31st, 2016 by Ann Kelly

One month ago I sat down for my first meeting with Charlotte Mapes, RD, LDN, the Wellness Dietitian for BayCare Fitness Center- Carillon. I knew I had the power to change some things that only I could control, and that meant getting rid of the pounds I’d allowed to creep back in my life. I have tried, and obviously failed at doing that before and it never gets easier as the years go by. So I’m very happy to say I’m seven pounds lighter!

So how have I done it? I know tracking my carbs, fats and protein with the MyFitnessPal app [More]

Please Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself!

  • 8:34 am Tuesday, December 20th, 2016 by Ann Kelly

Let me reintroduce myself to you. You know Ann Kelly who’s with you in the morning as you take a run to begin the day; as you enjoy breakfast at your desk because it’s going to be another busy day; and who loves to share her love of all things for foodies in Ann Kelly’s Kitchen. Oh, and then there’s a lot of road trips and fun in Ann-Ventures. But the Ann Kelly I want to tell you about is the one that was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus some years ago. Of course I looked it up the [More]

Talking with Christy Jordan, founder of southernplate.com and author of “Sweetness” is like sitting on the front porch of her home in Huntsville, Alabama with a glass of sweet tea and just dishing all day. Christy’s new book is filled with the best of southern recipes, right down to that sweet tea. “Sweetness” is our featured selection for this month’s Ann Kelly’s Kitchen Collection, along with some of my favorites from the past year.

There are almost 200 recipes to make your mouth water and each one is all about tradition – and so is Christy. Does it get more southern than [More]

Amazon Go On The Way

  • 6:47 am Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 by Ann Kelly

I’ll be totally honest with you – I love my Amazon Prime account, especially around this time of year when I need something shipped fast. But what about being able to use that when those hunger pangs hit? Amazon is doing a test right now in Seattle with an actual store where you can do that. Take a look! And then take our poll and let us know what think about it.

What’s On The Menu?

  • 9:09 am Saturday, December 3rd, 2016 by Ann Kelly

Love hummus? Me too! But if you have some of this in the fridge from Trader Joes ditch it. They have recalled the Mediterranean Hummus or White Bean & Basil Hummus for possible listeria contamination. We have more info from Trader Joes for you here. But hey, it’s not that tough to make your own with as few as five ingredients, and add whatever special flavors you’d like. Tahini is a sesame paste that is the base for most recipes, but you can make a very nice version without it.

Burritos are one of my favorites  for breakfast especially [More]

Who Are America’s Fattest Cities?

  • 4:43 am Friday, November 4th, 2016 by Ann Kelly

This is not a list you want to be #1 on. WalletHub has come out with their list of “The Fattest States in America,” using stats from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Sure looks we need to hit the gym a little more with more than three-quarters of adults coming in at overweight or obese. Florida is listed at 30th, but that’s better than being in the top five. From fifth to first, those cities are Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Louisiana, and at number one – Mississippi.

For the first time there are more people in the obese [More]

Too much Halloween candy around the house or in the office? The 2016 Halloween Candy Buy Back is going on right now.
