This close to the holidays it’s so easy to slack a little on the healthy eating. So the American Heart Association would like to invite you to a healthy lunch to start November and pass along some tips to make it to the New Year and not have to make those weight loss resolutions. Lily Conrad, Communications Director for the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Tampa Bay made a stop in Ann Kelly’s Kitchen to tell us more about National Eating Healthy Day, Wednesday, Nov. 2nd and how you can get free information packets as well.

I ready something recently that rings so true: “if you don’t have to read the label you don’t have to count the calories.” This is so true for me right now. I’ve started looking for a healthier protein bar and after reading a lot of labels I’ve come to the conclusion that my choices are much more limited than I thought they would be.
A new study from HealthGrove shows that way too many so-called “healthy” protein bars have as much sugar and calories than a Snickers bar. Wow! So I’d get that quick rush of energy but it comes [More]

You may not have to wait for your once-a-year Girl Scout cookie fix much longer. This January General Mills will debut their newest cereals, both inspired by two of your favorites Girl Scout Cookies. There’s “Caramel Crunch” that make you think of my favorite – the Samoa. But if Thin Mints are more your style there’s one especially for you. We first heard about this from the site CandyHunting.com.

For those of us who were curious what Christopher Kimball would be up to for his next adventure, it’s to be found at 177 Milk Street in Boston. It’s not that far removed from what the founder, editor, and publisher of America’s Test Kitchen, Cook’s Illustrated and Cook’s Country magazines has done in the past, along with hosting America’s Test Kitchen and Cook’s Country from America’s Test Kitchen. 177 Milk Street is home to the editorial offices of Milk Street, a cooking school as well as where Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street television and radio shows will be produced. This month marks the launch of [More]

It’s hard to be humble when three of the top ten “foodie” cities in the US are right here in Tampa Bay. The newest survey from WalletHub places Tampa 4th, Miami 3rd and Orlando 4th. What do they look at to make us culinary champs? That would be what we’re actually spending on groceries, and how many truly affordable restaurants we have that have that oh so desirable 4.5 stars. Oh and course anything that’s a food festival and those are never in short supply. We just celebrated Oktoberfest in Tampa, Magical Dining Month and the Epcot Food and Wine [More]

Guess who scored a shout out on Saturday Night Live last night? First of all, great cameos by Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon on Weekend Update who mentioned “Halloween Wars” on the Food Network! Pretty cool homage to a really fun show. This is the sixth season with host Jonathan Bennett and judges Cake Decorator Shinmin Li and horror film icon Don Mancini. Sweet and scary. Put that on a recipe card!

Because of the risk of high winds, Oktoberfest Tampa wants to make sure everyone has a safe and good time, so they’re canceling for Friday only. But get ready for a great party and much better weather for the rest of the weekend.
It’s time to tap the keg, enjoy a stein full along with a brat. It’s Oktoberfest time in Curtis Hixon Park, and I’ll be there Saturday, October 8th along with Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn for the keg tapping at 3 pm. Nicole from Oktoberfest Tampa has everything you need to know about the weekend in our video [More]
