I ready something recently that rings so true: “if you don’t have to read the label you don’t have to count the calories.” This is so true for me right now. I’ve started looking for a healthier protein bar and after reading a lot of labels I’ve come to the conclusion that my choices are much more limited than I thought they would be.
A new study from HealthGrove shows that way too many so-called “healthy” protein bars have as much sugar and calories than a Snickers bar. Wow! So I’d get that quick rush of energy but it comes from sugar and then comes the crash. Not what I want – I want a good protein source (and right now I’d like egg white protein) and that’s not sugar.
I read their list of 23 energy bars with more sugar than a Snickers and there were way too many that I’ve had in the past. But no more. I’m looking into a paleo option that does use egg white protein with 20 grams of protein and I’ll let you know how that goes. But take a look at this list and you may be reconsidering your choices as well.
