A Harvest That Brings Hope

  • 9:14 am Tuesday, June 27th, 2017 by Ann Kelly

I usually end each Ann Kelly’s Kitchen blog with a quote, but this is one I want to lead with. It comes from Anne Raver and it really speaks to the mission of the University Area Community Development Corporation and their work with the Harvest Hope Park Community Garden – “Gardens, scholars say, are the first sign of commitment to a community. When people plant corn they are saying, let’s stay here. And by their connection to the land, they are connected to one another.”

Community gardens are growing in popularity and Harvest Hope is a great example. I stopped [More]

Explosion Injures Florida Chef

  • 3:49 am Monday, June 26th, 2017 by Ann Kelly

Stop. Drop. And Roll. Words that save the life of a Florida chef in his own kitchen. We’ve seen Chef Ralph Pagano on shows like “Iron Chef” and “Hell’s Kitchen.” The south Florida Chef  was at his new restaurant in Miami, the Naked Taco. when he was severely burned in a gas explosion in the kitchen. Chef Pagano is in the hospital with third-degree burns and will have surgery to repair those burns. You may have checked out his other restaurants in South Florida like Naked Lunch in Miami and Naked Crab in Fort Lauderdale. Best wishes for a [More]

A healthy diet goes a long way toward good health. But if you suffer from rheumatoid arthritis there’s a new study out you need to know about. Arthritis Care and Research’s new study says to keep fish an important part of your diet. Now how much and what kind is also important, so take a look at the study and see what works for you. Oh, and don’t miss the new about coconut oil. You may agree or disagree, and it’s started a whole lot of conversation.

I love hummus but if you’ve bought this brand you want to ditch [More]

How To Keep The Chill In Summer

  • 3:44 am Wednesday, June 21st, 2017 by Ann Kelly

When exactly is the first day of summer? That would be today…like there will be a noticeable difference between today and a week ago here in Florida, right? But along with all the fun and games comes some serious problems when you don’t take care of yourself out in all that heat and humidity. The magic word is hydrate and that’s not with soda, alcohol, etc. Both alcohol and caffeine can actually make us feel hotter. It might surprise you to know that spicy foods not only will make us sweat and that can help cool us off. But [More]

Survey says there are those among us who think chocolate milk comes from brown cows. Seriously. Okay, it’s not a huge percentage but there are 7% that think that’s the real deal. The report came out in the February issue of Food and Wine and it gets even better. Some people aren’t sure where chocolate milk comes from at all. Okay…

I know where mine comes from, and it’s one of my very not-so-guilty pleasures. The Silk Dark Chocolate Almond Milk is my go-to when that chocolate craving hits. But all good things in moderation. I do pay attention to [More]

Recalls For Tyson, Chef Boyardee

  • 4:28 am Monday, June 12th, 2017 by Ann Kelly

Two major recalls to pass along to you this morning. The first comes from Tyson Foods recalling over two million pounds of breaded chicken, the other from Conagra Foods – Chef Boyardee for over 700,000 pounds of various spaghetti and meatball products.

The ready-to-eat breaded chicken was sold for institutional use and shipped across the US. The bread crumbs used may have milk in them and that was not noted on the label. For the Chef Boyardee products the problem is also with bread crumbs.

If you have any of these products throw them away or return for a refund [More]

Lunch With A Side of Awesome

  • 12:48 pm Sunday, June 4th, 2017 by Ann Kelly

My first impression of Universal’s Volcano Bay™ water theme park was – this is awesome!  I headed over early in the morning  before our live broadcast a few weeks ago, and had my first look at the 200 foot Krakatau™ volcano that’s home to the  Krakatau™ Aqua Coaster. You can down and up, right through the volcano and have an unforgettable ride in a specially-designed canoe. And that is just the start of one day full of cool and very wet fun! One of the great parts of Volcano Bay is being able to leave all the hassles behind and have everything you need [More]
