  • 6:16 am Tuesday, August 29th, 2017 by Ann Kelly

How many times have we said it? No matter what the predictions for the hurricane season are, it only takes one. One historic, catastrophic storm like Harvey. The record-breaking rains continue to decimate the state but there is a way you can help. Join The Dove as we support our sister stations in Houston with donations that will benefit the Houston Food Bank. Those stations will be working all day Monday and Tuesday to help the Food Bank and to show your support for their work, please click here.

Lower Prices At Whole Foods?

  • 5:19 am Friday, August 25th, 2017 by Ann Kelly

Amazon bought Whole Foods. That much we know. But now, we know a lot more. Starting Monday Amazon has promised to lower prices and give special savings and in-store benefits to Amazon Prime members. I happen to be one of those and I haven’t shopped at Whole Foods in some time. Like you, I thought things were overpriced and since there are many competitors with lower prices that’s where I’ve been going. That’s despite the fact that Whole Foods is very close to my house, the others aren’t. There’s supposed to be more in the works so I’ll take [More]

Save The Chickens!

  • 5:22 am Thursday, August 24th, 2017 by Ann Kelly

Save the chickens! One farmer in Scotland’s flock likes to cross the road…a lot. So now they’re wearing reflective safety vests. Really! They’re live at a  Bed & Breakfast and the owners love their fresh eggs and wanted to keep them safe. Now guess how many people are booking rooms just to see why the chickens cross the road. I wonder if our Ybor City chickens need those? Check that link for the Ybor Chickens Society.

Caffeine’s Kicking It On The St Pete Coffee Tour

  • 5:10 am Friday, August 18th, 2017 by Ann Kelly

I’ll be the first to admit that I came late to the coffee game. My version had a lot more chocolate and whipped cream than coffee, and that’s not right. You know what I mean! How did I make it all the way through college without a dark, rich cup at least once a day? Who knows! But thanks to Brendan Smith and the new St Pete Craft Coffee Tour I have a new appreciation for the brew and the local coffee shops that are now as numerous as craft breweries. But that’s a good thing. Brendan found the [More]

Win A “House To Home” Gift Card

  • 6:03 pm Friday, August 11th, 2017 by Ann Kelly

It’s a real pleasure to add House to Home on McMullen Booth in Clearwater to the Ann Kelly’s Kitchen Collection this month. I’ve been a fan for some time and have added a lovely round dining room table and chairs painted a mint green with a slightly distressed finish that has really freshened things up. Oh, there’s more like a blue console table that I’m using as a sideboard…and well, you get it. I stopped back in over the weekend and Kim, the owner of House to Home told me right now there are over thirty vendors and all women. Pretty [More]

Cheetos Pops Up; Krispy Kreme Goes Dark

  • 4:11 am Thursday, August 10th, 2017 by Ann Kelly

For two days only! And honestly, that’s enough – celeb chef Anne Burrell is going to open a pop-up restaurant featuring a three course menu with Cheeto-inspired dishes. Anne has been a guest in Ann Kelly’s Kitchen before and she certainly has the fun frame of mine for a stunt like this. “The Spotted Cheetah” will open be open in New York City for two days, opening on August 15th.  I’m not too sure about the dessert though. It’s a Cheetohs Sweetohs crusted cheesecake. Um, no. But if you have a few days off next week and want to [More]

Warning For Copper Mugs

  • 5:58 am Wednesday, August 9th, 2017 by Ann Kelly

Love that cool copper mug you use for your Moscow Mule? You might want to think twice about using that. Seems putting any sort of acidic drink in a copper container that’s not lined properly can actually poison you.  So how do you enjoy a class in the mug you always have used? Just make sure it’s lined with something like stainless steel. We’ll tell you more about the Food and Drug Administration’s Food Model Code here. Now I’m going home and check  my mug!

How often do you switch out the sponge in the kitchen? I’ve tossed the kitchen sponge onto the top rack of my dishwasher numerous times to clean it up and reuse but is that enough. Well….maybe. There’s a new study out of Germany that isn’t too pleasant. They found over 118 different kinds of bacteria on a common kitchen sponge. That’s more than what you might find in the bathroom and that’s not what you want in our kitchens. Of course that’s not the only place you need to make sure is cleaned up. Bacteria happens, but let’s take [More]

Oh Halo-No!

  • 4:11 am Monday, August 7th, 2017 by Ann Kelly

Don’t you just hate it when common sense kicks in? For anyone that’s experienced the bliss of a pine of Halo Ice Cream and figured hey, it’s healthier and I can eat the whole pint – slow down. Nutritionists say although some of the sugar and fat have been take out there are concerns about another sweetener that’s being used that doesn’t always produce the sweetest results for some people. All good things in moderation, right. How popular is Halo? Bigger than Ben & Jerry’s in some places. Now THAT’s a treat I cannot keep in Ann Kelly’s Kitchen [More]

Pyrex Back And It’s Really No Trouble

  • 5:18 am Tuesday, August 1st, 2017 by Ann Kelly

Ask anyone – who has, or at least hasn’t had – at least one piece of Pyrex in the kitchen? Those great nesting bowls have been a staple for almost 100 years. But don’t think it’s a thing of the past or just something you see in a vintage shop. It’s back, it can be worth big bucks and you may have one of those treasure pieces sitting in the back of the cabinet in the kitchen.

Why are people rediscovering Pyrex? It’s sturdy and is multi-use. I’m up for anything in Ann Kelly’s Kitchen that can eliminate clutter. Take a [More]
