Just walk in the door at William Dean Chocolates in Belleair Bluffs and inhale that intoxicating chocolate aroma. Toto, we’re home! Think of this as Halloween all year long for the big kids – hand crafted artisanal chocolates, gelato, decadent chocolate bars and the artists hard at work in the kitchen just behind the counter. That is the William Dean Chocolates experience that has now grown to include a marriage made in calorie heaven – William Dean Chocolates and Big Storm Brewery teaming up to create a chocolate beer.

But what is a beer without a name? Still delicious, but the label looks lonely. So with the release of this new craft beef last week on World Chocolate Day you’re invited to come up with a name for the new brew. There’s a very nice reward for the winning entry – a private 8-person Big Storm Brewery tour, a tap handle for the new beer, a 20-piece box of William Dean chocolates and a supply of the new Big Storm-William Dean beer. Oh, and don’t be surprised if there are a few more goodies from William Dean Chocolates. I spoke with founder Bill Brown and he mentioned adding a few more items. Works for me. The only caveats are that entrants must be 21 and up and names can be submitted until 10am on November 13th.  The winner will be announced at a private event at Big Storm Brewery on November 16th and I’ll be sure to share that with you. Send your entry to namethebeer@bigstormbrewery.com.

It’s getting to be the very busy time of year at William Dean Chocolates but Bill and I had a few minutes to talk about this new project, as well as the impact of the vanilla shortage on the industry and what to expect for the holidays from William Dean Chocolates.

WORDS OF WISDOM FROM ANN KELLY’S KITCHEN

Chocolate is the first real luxury. It has so many things wrapped up in it. Deliciousness in the moment, childhood memories, and that grin-inducing feeling of getting a reward for being good. – Mariska Hargitay
