Finally a legitimate excuse for caloric misbehavior – it’s National Hot Fudge Sundae Day! I can’t remember the last time I had one but perhaps it’s time to change that. Who actually created the day? Apparently you can go back to 1906 for that and an ice cream shop on Hollywood Blvd in LA. The classic of course would be the perfect scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry on top. Now tell me this – who has the best in Tampa Bay? There’s a recall underway for some 28-ounce cans of Bush’s Brown Sugar Hickory Baked Beans, Country Style Bakes Beans and Original Baked Beans for a pretty interesting issue – defective side seams. Really. On a Monday? But why not after all the rotten weather this weekend. It’s National Tequila Day but let’s wait until after work to grab the salt and lime. Want to show off your immense knowledge of all things Tequila? Here you go! It’s named after the relatively small town of Tequila, just west of Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico. It’s made from the blue Agave plant.
Here’s a few places to check out around the Bay area to celebrate. For one of the most impressive selections you can’t beat Red Mesa in St Pete. Enjoy responsibly!

This one just writes itself. Now, it is a recall and we take those seriously in Ann Kelly’s Kitchen. But when the recall is on coffee that actually has something in it with “Viagra-like results” you tend to pay attention. And come up with some pretty bad lines. But it’s true for this Japanese coffee. No prescription needed.

I’ve found Five Fun Finds this month in Ann Kelly’s Kitchen and we start of with one of those “only in Florida” stories. It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s…sausage? Yes, somehow 15 pounds of Italian sausage fell out of the sky and right onto a home right here in Florida! This is a whopper of a recall. Sabret has recalled seven million pounds of their hot does contaminated with what they’re calling extraneous products. We call it pieces of bone and cartilage in those hot dogs with one minor injury to date. Check the full recall notice and get those out out of the house and off the grill. I’ll also bring you back up to speed with some of the other big recalls we’ve had to deal with recently. Summertime and sometimes the dining isn’t easy.

It comes from Anne Raver and it really speaks to the mission of the University Area Community Development Corporation and their work with the Harvest Hope Park Community Garden – “Gardens, scholars say, are the first sign of commitment to a community. Stop. Drop. And Roll. Words that save the life of a Florida chef in his own kitchen. We’ve seen Chef Ralph Pagano on shows like “Iron Chef” and “Hell’s Kitchen.” The south Florida Chef was at his new restaurant in Miami, the Naked Taco. when he was severely burned in a gas explosion in the kitchen. Chef Pagano is in the hospital with third-degree burns and will have surgery to repair those burns.
